The Croatian National Bank issues the “Trsat Dragon” silver collector coin in the 6 euro denomination, featuring motifs that represent the sculpture of the “Trsat Dragon”, a part of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia. The coin was minted by the Croatian Mint, for the first time, in ultra-high relief.

The silver coin has a long historical and cultural background, inspired by the Trsat dragons, or basilisks, which were made as bronze sculptures in the first half of the 19th century at the request of Austrian field marshal Count Laval Nugent. The basilisks, commonly referred to as the “Trsat dragons” in the folk traditions of Rijeka, are mythical creatures with the characteristics of a snake, a dragon and a rooster. Considered the guardians of the Trsat Castle above Rijeka, they were an integral part of the noble coat of arms of the Nugent family.

The author of the design of the silver coin is Natalia Danysz. The coins will be sold by the Croatian Mint as of 14 November 2024. The issued quantity of coins is limited at 1,000 pieces, and the initial selling price is expected to range around EUR 249.99, VAT included. The selling price at the time of purchase will depend on the movement in the price of silver in the open market.

More information on order and purchase is available on the website of the Croatian Mint.
