The Croatian National Bank once again warns of fake news that has recently been spreading through social networks, unsubstantiatedly claiming that the CNB Governor is in various ways involved in promoting or criticising various financial institutions or financial investments.

In this context, the CNB would also like to draw the public’s attention to the existence of deepfakes, such as Facebook video ads, which promote investments in cryptocurrencies in the name of the CNB Governor, falsely claiming that these investments are protected by the CNB and that the project has been approved by the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Authority (Hanfa).

Neither the CNB nor its officials participate in promoting any financial services or investments, including cryptocurrency investments.

The CNB takes these false posts seriously and takes all measures available to it to prevent the spread of similar falsehoods. The central bank also appeals to the public to be vigilant, not to fall for such attempts at fraud and not to share false information that can lead to further misconceptions and the spread of disinformation.

Should citizens come across such or similar false posts, in which potentially contentious claims are made about the CNB Governor and/or members of the CNB Council, they are invited to report them to relevant platforms using the available content reporting tools. They can also report their suspicions and any information they may have to the e-mail address: info@hnb.hr.
