Free of charge exchange of the Bulgarian lev at the CNB

The Croatian National Bank (CNB) welcomes Bulgaria as the latest, 21st member of the Eurosystem, as of 1 January 2026.

In the context of the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria, the Croatian National Bank will exchange the Bulgarian lev (BGN) for euro from 2 January to 2 March 2026 at the fixed conversion exchange rate of BGN 1.95583 = 1 euro.

The exchange will be free of charge. No exchange will be possible for coins and banknotes that do no longer have a status of the legal tender.

The maximum amount that may be exchanged is set at BGN 2 000 per person and transaction per day and the exchange may be carried out at CNB’s cash desk in Zagreb, Jurišićeva 17, from 8:30 to 15:30, Monday to Friday.

The CNB reserves the right to require a proof of origin for banknote exchange transactions so you are kindly requested to have adequate documents on you.
