At today’s meeting, the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) approved the nomination of Boris Vujčić to become Vice-President of the European Central Bank. Previously, ECON held a hearing with Boris Vujčić, Governor of the Croatian National Bank, on Wednesday as part of the process in which the EU Council nominated the CNB Governor as Vice-President of the European Central Bank (ECB). During a one-hour hearing, European Parliament members asked Governor Vujčić questions on, among other things, the ECB’s monetary policy, the international role of the euro, the digital euro project and the impact of euro adoption on inflation in Croatia. The European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs will hold a meeting tomorrow (Thursday) to vote on the nomination of the CNB Governor as Vice-President of the ECB, after which the European Parliament will vote on the same issue at its plenary session in the week 9-13 March. This is an advisory position of the European Parliament. The European Council, i.e. the heads of states and governments of the EU will take the final decision on the appointment of Boris Vujčić at the meeting in March.
