As part of the Croatian Heritage collector coin series, the Croatian National Bank has issued “200th Anniversary of Samobor Carnival” gold and silver collector coins with commemorative motifs representing one of the oldest and most famous carnival traditions in Croatia, deeply-rooted in the Croatian traditional culture and heritage. The gold coins are issued in the denominations of EUR 50 and EUR 20 and the silver coins are issued in the denominations of EUR 8 and EUR 4.

The coin designs are by the sculptor Karlo Gross. The coins will be sold by the Croatian Mint. The central motif of this coin issue is Princess Magpie, a distinctive figure of Samobor Carnival, which figures as vox populi and chronicles current events. The reverse of the gold and silver coins displays Carnival Prince, Judge and Advocate, traditional holders of the carnival order.

The total issue of the EUR 50 gold coin is limited to 200 pieces and that of the EUR 20 gold coin to 500 pieces. The total issue of the EUR 8 silver coloured coin is limited to 300 pieces and that of the EUR 4 silver coin to 1,500 pieces.
