The Croatian National Bank is issuing the commemorative 2-euro coin "100 Years of the Croatian Radio and Television", with motifs commemorating 100 years of the Croatian Radio and Television (HRT), the public media institution owned by the Republic of Croatia and comprising radio and television stations. Its beginnings date back to the establishment of "Radio Zagreb" in 1926; today, HRT is the central national media organisation with significant cultural and social relevance for the Republic of Croatia.

Date of release into circulation: The commemorative coin is released in circulation on 16 July 2026 and the exchange of commemorative coins for the public will begin on 20 July 2026.

Technical specification: The commemorative 2-euro coin is minted according to the technical specifications for the 2-euro circulation coin in accordance with Council Regulation (EU) No 729/2014 of 24 June 2014 on denominations and technical specifications of euro coins intended for circulation.

Description of the national side of the commemorative coin: The national side of the commemorative coin features radio waves in five lines, symbolising the beginning of broadcasting of "Radio Zagreb", on the medium-wave frequency of 350 meters on 15 May 1926 at 8.30 p.m. This moment also symbolises the beginning of the Croatian Radio and Television, the legal successor to "Radio Zagreb". The coin also features the inscriptions: the year of issuance "2026", the text "100 GODINA HRVATSKE RADIOTELEVIZIJE" (100 years of the Croatian Radio and Television) and the symbol for the Republic of Croatia "HR". They are all inscribed within the lines of radio waves, with which they are typographically joined. The combination of depicted radio waves and the surface of the coin’s core also represents Croatia's distinctive symbol, the Croatian checkerboard, one of the elements of the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia. The design of the national side of the commemorative coin also bears stylised initials of the author: "KG".

The commemorative coin’s national side outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

The edge lettering of the commemorative coin features the text "O LIJEPA O DRAGA O SLATKA SLOBODO" (Oh beautiful, oh dear, oh sweet freedom) from the Hymn to Freedom, which is an integral part of the pastoral play "Dubravka" by the 17th century Croatian writer Ivan Gundulić.
